Pharmacy First Scheme
Get quick NHS treatment for 7 common conditions directly from our expert pharmacists.
Service Description
NHS Pharmacy First – Available at Our Pharmacy The NHS Pharmacy First Service allows our pharmacists to assess and treat seven common conditions without the need for a GP appointment. The service is free to access, although normal NHS prescription charges apply if medication is supplied (unless you’re exempt). Our trained pharmacists can offer expert clinical advice, self-care guidance, and where appropriate, supply prescription medicines under NHS protocols. We’ll also update your GP record when needed. You can walk in, call us, or be referred by NHS 111 or your GP. If your symptoms are outside the service criteria, we’ll refer you to the right place for further care. Conditions We Can Treat 1. Earache (Acute Otitis Media) For children aged 1 to 17 years. We assess ear pain, provide advice and suitable treatment, and can supply antibiotics if needed. Urgent symptoms such as high fever or severe pain will be referred. 2. Impetigo For adults and children aged 1 year and over. We can diagnose and treat this common skin infection, offering hygiene advice and antibiotic creams or tablets if appropriate. 3. Infected Insect Bites For adults and children aged 1 year and over. If a bite has become red, painful, or swollen, we can assess, advise on care, and supply suitable medication when necessary. 4. Shingles (Herpes Zoster) For adults aged 18 years and over. Early antiviral treatment can help reduce pain and speed recovery. We’ll assess your rash and provide or refer for treatment as needed. 5. Sinusitis For adults and young people aged 12 years and over. We can help with blocked or painful sinuses, offering self-care advice and, if required, prescription treatment. 6. Sore Throat For adults and children aged 5 years and over. We’ll assess your symptoms, recommend pain relief and soothing remedies, and supply antibiotics only when clinically necessary. 7. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) – Women For women aged 16 to 64 years. If you have symptoms of a mild UTI (such as burning or frequency), we can assess and supply antibiotics when suitable. We’ll refer to a GP if your symptoms suggest a more serious infection or you fall outside this age range. How It Works Step 1: Visit or contact us for a consultation. Step 2: Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms. Step 3: You’ll receive self-care advice, medication if appropriate, or a referral if needed.
